Sunbeam is proud to announce the release of the Section 3 exhaust system for the BMW E46 M3—developed through countless hours of meticulous engineering.
This Racing Section 3 is a true masterpiece that brings out the pure racing sound of the S54 engine to its fullest, achieving an exceptional balance of performance and aesthetics.
* A groundbreaking design featuring a total of 20 beautifully bent pipes—unlike anything seen before
* 76.3mm tips crafted with precise Japanese craftsmanship, down to the inner surfaces(70mm tip option is now available.)
* An innovative collector section designed to maximize performance
Every element of this Section 3 was created to further ignite the passion of those who continue to love the legendary E46 M3 and its S54 engine, nearly 25 years after its debut.
Development was conducted using a 2006 Euro-spec M3, equipped with OEM headers, Sunbeam Section 1, and a stock Section 2.
Like many performance exhaust systems, this Section 3 initially suffered from noticeable torque and peak power losses during development—especially between 2,200 and 3,300 rpm.
With the support of our trusted partners—Japan’s top-tier exhaust manufacturer VOLCANO and Vehicle Engineering—we carried out repeated bench tests with every layout and pipe diameter change.
As a result, we achieved satisfying outcomes using MAHA's WPS testing mode.
Compared to stock, torque slightly dips between 1,500 and 2,800 rpm, but from around 3,000 rpm onward, the power curve consistently surpasses that of the stock system.
Please note that although the testing conditions were nearly identical, these were not same-day comparisons.
Regarding drone—a common concern for many customers—there is a slight presence between 2,500 and 2,800 rpm.
However, this was carefully addressed in the development phase, and it has been minimized in the production version.
Please understand that results may vary depending on driving style and the rest of your exhaust setup.
Drone is particularly more likely when using US-spec headers or EU-spec catalytic converters.
Additionally, this Section 3 is intentionally designed to preserve the S54’s glorious high-rev tone, so the overall sound volume is relatively loud.
While it is possible to drive quietly by modulating throttle input, we ask all customers to ensure compliance with their local regulations when purchasing.
The tip protrusion has been designed to match the CSL diffuser.
We’ve also included reference photos showing how it looks with a stock diffuser for your consideration.
This is the most time-intensive product in the Sunbeam lineup, with only 2 to 3 units produced per month.
We appreciate your patience and look forward to your order.
Pair it with the widely trusted and proven Section 1 to experience an exciting, high-pitched sound that defines the E46 M3.
